Clash: Banki College declared sine die

Banki: Banki College in Cuttack district was declared sine die Monday as three students were injured following a fierce clash between two groups of students over passing of lewd comments at a girl.

Principal Amarendra Mishra issued a directive to hostel inmates asking them to vacate rooms and leave for their homes with immediate effect.
The injured students Anil Kumar Sahu, Biplab Rout and Ajay Kumar Swain of Plus III were admitted to the local hospital.

The irate students even assaulted a teacher Joginath Mallick and damaged his cell phone when he was trying to click photographs of the violence.
The campus turned into a battlefield with two groups of students wielding lathis and bamboo sticks attacked each other. One of the groups went berserk and damaged the motorcycles and bicycles parked on the premises.

A group of students pulled down the wall near the canteen and ransacked the college premises after the authorities locked the main gate.

Apprehending danger, the principal, faculty members and non-teaching staff locked themselves in the common room and principal’s office and did not dare venture outside.
A police team led by SDPO Amaresh Panigrahi and local IIC Biswaranjan Sahu rushed to the spot but failed to restrain the students as they were outnumbered by the latter.
Additional forces requisitioned from Cuttack were deployed on the campus while irate students were found assembling outside the college.

The issue had its origin July 29 when a group of irate students had barged into the principal’s office and ransacked it. Several students were hurt during the violence. PNN
