Bhubaneswar: A Class XI student of a private school in Bhubaneswar died Monday after falling from 10th floor of an apartment building in the Chandrasekharpur area, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Rofan Qureshi.
According to DCP Jagmohan Meena, student had allegedly visited his girlfriend’s apartment while no one else was at home. Both the deceased and the girl were Class XI students at the same private school in the city.
Police said the boy reportedly panicked after the girl’s mother returned home unexpectedly. While allegedly attempting to escape through the bathroom window using an external water pipe, he lost his balance and fell from the 10th floor, resulting in his death.
DCP said the apartment’s CCTV cameras were not functioning at the time of the incident, making it difficult to verify the sequence of events through video footage.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Meena said any complaint filed by the student’s family would also be examined, and appropriate action taken based on the findings.
