Class I boy stoned to death: Mother’s lover taken on 2-day remand

Berhampur: Debasis Panda, the prime accused in the abduction and murder of a Class I boy in Gosaninuagaon area here in Ganjam district, Friday was sent to a two-day police remand by a local court.

The inspector-in-charge of Gosani Nuagaon police station had pleaded before the court seeking his custody for further investigation in the case.

Panda was arrested Wednesday on the basis of a CCTV footage obtained during the investigation.

According to police, the boy, Ashish Anshuman alias Ayush’s mother Nirupama of Sadananda Vihar had befriended Panda of Jajpur area on social media a year ago. After frequent chats, the two developed a relationship and Panda used to visit her house frequently.

She had introduced him as his ‘dharma’ brother to everyone. Panda who had come to celebrate the boy’s birthday January 5 took the boy on the pretext of dropping him at school and stoned him to death.

Later, he dumped the body in a forest and fled to Sambalpur from where the cops arrested him after going through the CCTV footages. The confession of Panda took everyone by shock.

“I was attracted towards Nirupama and wanted to establish physical relationship with her. But she declined my love proposal. The boy seemed to be always around her and I felt that he was posing an obstacle in our relationship. So I killed him to pave my path,” confessed the one sided lover.

Police has seized the scooty in which Panda took Ayush to the forest.

We had applied for remand and the court has granted remand for two-days. We will interrogate him for further probe and find out the involvement of any other person, Gosaninuagaon IIC said.
