Class X girl burnt alive to death as house catches fire

Kendrapara: In a bone-chilling incident, a 16-year-old girl was burnt to death in a massive blaze that broke out in the house while she was fast asleep in the house Wednesday noon.

The heartrending incident was reported from Baunsamula village under Rajanagar police limits in Kendrapara district at around 12:30PM.

The deceased has been identified as Priyasmita Roul, a Class X student of Savitri Devi Girls High School.

According to sources, the girl lived with her family in a thatched house. She was alone at her house while her family members gone out for work when the incident occurred.

A massive fire broke out and engulfed the whole house. The girl got stuck in the flames and was charred to death, reports said.

Seeing the blaze, villagers tried to douse the flames but in vain. On being informed, police and fire personnel reached the spot and extinguished the flames. Later, the girl’s body was recovered from the gutted house and sent for autopsy.

The incident spread a pall of gloom in the village as the girl was very studious and hard-working.

Meanwhile, valuables including household items, electronics, groceries and many important documents were reduced to ashes in the fire.

While no exact reason of the fire breakout was ascertained, locals suspected the girl was busy cooking in the kitchen when the incident occurred.
