Mohana: A Class X girl was left in lurch after being impregnated by her boyfriend who later ditched her. Subsequently, she was left to fend for self after her parents also turned her away from their house in fear of social stigma, reports said.
The matter came to the fore after the victim approached the local police for help. Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
According to the complainant, the victim Padma (name changed) of Adaba police limits area in Gajapati district was studying at a residential school. During her school holidays, she would go to her aunt’s house to stay with her cousins.
Meanwhile, she came across the youth who lured her into a relationship and later raped her on several occasions on the false promise of marriage. The girl insisted the boy for marriage after she came to know that she was impregnated.
However, the accused fled the village. With no option left, she returned home only to be turned away by her parents.
A village meeting was called wherein the villagers asked the accused to accept the girl as his wife. However, he along with his family fled the village.
The police rescued the girl and produced her before the child protection office. A probe is on and we will arrest the accused soon, police said.
