Clerk in Vigilance net for taking bribe

Khurda: Vigilance sleuths Wednesday claimed to have arrested a clerk of Haladia community health centre (CHC) for accepting bribe to issue a death certificate.

Vigilance officials produced Haladia CHC clerk Ashok Kumar Mohanty, 47, in a local court after registering a case in this regard. Mohanty was sent to Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar after the court rejected his bail plea.

According to sources, Rajendra Baliar Singh, the father of Manoranjan Ray, of Baniatangi died in 2003.

Monoranjan has recently visited Haladia CHC to collect the death certificate of his father. Mohanty allegedly sought Rs 2,000 bribe from Manoranjan to issue the certificate.

Finally, Mohanty had agreed to issue the certificate after Monaranjan promised to pay him Rs 1,000. Manoranjan had informed the issue to the Vigilance sleuths who laid a trap and arrested Mohanty red-handed Wednesday.
