Bhubaneswar, August 18: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday reportedly spoke to Paralakhemundi Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb’s daughter Kalyani Gajapati over phone and enquired about the Maharaja’s health condition. Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, too, visited Chennai to enquire about the Maharaja’s health.
According to sources the Chief Minister assured all possible help from the state government for the king’s treatment and wished him speedy recovery.
The health minister, as directed by the Chief Minister, met the king who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai for the last three days. He also enquired about his condition from Kalyani.
The chief minister had Wednesday said that the medical expenses of the Paralakhemundi king would be borne by the state government.
Gopinath (74), a two-time Lok Sabha member, is the grandson of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapti, who had played a crucial role in the formation of separate Orissa state April 1, 1936 on the basis of its language.
