CM seeks revised MoU to develop city rly stn

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Union railway minister Piyush Goyal to sign a fresh MoU for developing the Bhubaneswar railway station into a world class station.
Patnaik, in his letter to Goyal, urged the latter to sign a revised MoU between the state government and the Railways Ministry to facilitate immediate implementation of development works at the station in a single phase.
“The MoU that was to be signed January 20, 2018 to take up the development project in two phases couldn’t be signed and has already been delayed considerably; now the entire project should be taken up in one phase,” Patnaik wrote pointing out that the
state government has already proposed a revised MoU
that needs to be expeditiously approved by the Railways.
The Chief Minister said that Odisha government has already offered to develop a modern railway station building with international-standard passenger amenities in the capital city and it has already engaged a design Singapore-based firm, Subarna Jurong, for this purpose.
He said that one of the defining features of the proposed plan is to connect both sides of railway station through a very wide concourse with a view to give a complete new experience to the passengers. This will involve construction over the platforms and railway lines, he wrote.
The modern station facility, according to Patnaik, has been planned to be built on land belonging to the state government where a multi-modal hub, which will seamlessly integrate with the Smart City development plans, is being developed.
