New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will seek Union government’s support during a high level meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah here August 26 to get rid of Maoist menace in the state.
Patnaik, who arrived in here Friday, told the media that he would attend the meeting called by Shah and apprise the Union government about the status of Maoist activities in the state. He said that the Maoist violence has come down in the state but there are certain issues which needed to be addressed.
“I’m here to attend the meeting called by the Union home minister over Maoist problems in the country. The Maoist problem has come down in Odisha but there are certain requirements to eradicate it completely. I will discuss that in the meeting,” said Patnaik.
According to reports, the chief ministers of around 10 states affected by left-wing extremism will attend the meeting here Monday.
A meeting was held in the state Thursday where it has been decided that the Odisha government will seek Centre’s support in betterment of telecommunication, roads, bridges and banking facility in at least 551 gram panchayats which were freed from left wing extremism. It has also been stated that of the 15 districts, the number of LWE-hit districts has now come down to five now.
