Cuttack: Revenue Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar Samal Tuesday emphasized the immediate need to desilt drains in the city prior to the onset of monsoon.
Presiding over a meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Samal advised the officials to keep equipment and manpower in place to deal with waterlogging in the city.
The meeting also deliberated upon restoration work in the aftermath of cyclone Fani that battered many recreational parks and other infrastructure in Cuttack.
CMC officials informed the RDC that the CMC had collected revenue of Rs 209.40 crore in 2018-19 fiscal out of which the urban body has spent Rs 189.06 crore.
The meeting also deliberated on ways to boost CMC’s revenue collection. “The revenue collection of the civic body has gone down after 2017-18 fiscal. We have deliberated on measures to raise revenue collection,” said the RDC.
According to the RDC, the officials have been told to ensure proper sanitation and solid waste management in the city.
“Our priority is to improve sanitation and solid waste management system. The officials have been told to engage small vehicles to remove garbage from various localities,” Samal said.
The RDC claimed that the civic body has been preparing a detail project report (DPR) to manage solid waste generated in the city.
Notably, the CMC authorities have hired a private firm to clear garbage from 40 wards in Cuttack, but the agency has failed to redress people’s grievances on garbage disposal.
“We have taken up the issue seriously and will take appropriate measures to improve garbage disposal system,” said the RDC.
