Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has planned to remove garbage from streets and dustbins in the wee hours every day.
The municipal body is considering removing garbage at around 3 am everyday to provide a hygienic atmosphere to morning walkers, school going children and office goers, sources said.
It is learnt that Collector Aravind Agrawal has directed the CMC to take necessary steps for disposal of garbage early in the morning.
The civic body has outsourced the garbage disposal of 32 wards in the Silver City to private agencies. However, locals often allege that private agencies do not remove garbage from streets and dustbins until 8 am every day.
“Delay in the removal of garbage causes inconvenience to morning walkers and school children. Sanitary workers in some metro cities of the country usually remove garbage from the streets in the wee hours. The CMC has planned to replicate the system in Cuttack,” said a source in the civic body.
According to sources, the CMC is likely to ask the private agencies, engaged in sanitary work, to start removing garbage from the streets of 32 wards in the city at 3 am every day on experimental basis.
“We will ask the private agencies to start removing garbage from streets at 3 am on experimental basis. We can introduce the system across the city after deliberating on its efficacy at the council meeting,” said CMC commissioner Bikash Mahapatra.
Congress corporator Giribala Behera welcomed the move and asked the civic body to introduce appropriate measures for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the city.
