Mumbai: An original series on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh is being developed by Collective Studios’ Historyverse, the makers announced Thursday.
The yet-to-be-titled series, which is made in association with Hathiramani Commercial Ventures and co-produced with investor and entrepreneur Manish Hathiramani, will explore Bhagat Singh’s formative years, his influences and the experiences that shaped him into one of India’s most enduring national icons, a press release said.
According to the makers, the show will be set against the backdrop of a changing India in the early 20th century and will examine how Bhagat Singh’s ideas and convictions evolved to ultimately define his legacy.
Sudeep Lahiri, Head of Channels and Distribution at Collective Media Network, said they are thrilled to explore the lesser-known aspects of the Indian freedom fighter’s life through the show.
“There are some figures in our history whose stories we think we know completely. Bhagat Singh is one of them. But behind the icon was a young man whose ideas, influences and experiences shaped the person he would become. That is the story we are interested in exploring,” Lahiri said in a statement.
The project marks Hathiramani’s debut as a producer, and he said he is delighted to be producing the show.
“Bhagat Singh is a figure whose life has always fascinated me, but what interests me most is the person before the legend. We know the revolutionary, the freedom fighter and the icon; this series gives us an opportunity to understand the many facets of Bhagat Singh’s life and the journey that shaped him,” he said.
The details, including the title of the show, cast and the director, will be announced at a later date.
In the past, Hindi cinema has produced quite a few films about Bhagat Singh, including The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002), starring Ajay Devgn, Sunny Deol; Bobby Deol’s 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002); and Manoj Kumar’s cult classic Shaheed (1965), among others.
