Odisha: Class-II girl student locked in classroom overnight, headmaster suspended

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018, scheduled to begin here in November, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has planned to spruce up major city parks and streets with sleek and durable steel furniture and signage.
Initiating the process, the BDA floated a tender Friday seeking proposals from agencies and organisations for fabrication, supply, installation and maintenance of furniture and signage at different parks and roadsides in Bhubaneswar.
The furniture include 10-seat and 4-seat stainless steel benches, twin hanging stainless steel dustbins, automatic and semi-automatic E-toilets with bio digester and various types of street and park signage such as area info graphic, location indicator, directional and information signage among others. The selected agency will also have the responsibility for maintenance of the furniture for four years.
Keeping in view that the furniture and signage at parks and alongside the roads are always prone to wear and tear, it has been planned to use stainless steel for ensuring durability.
The tentative list of green spaces wherein the furniture and signage would be installed include Indira Gandhi Park, Biju Patnaik Park, Madhusudan Das Park, Mahatma Gandhi Park, Buddha Jayanti Park, Kharavel Park, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Park and various colony parks in BDA area.
Similarly, the road stretches which have been tentatively zeroed in are Janpath, Rajmahal Square to AG Square, Sachivalaya Marg, Biju Pattnaik Statue Island near Airport Square to KIIT Square, Airport Square to Sishu Bhavan Square, Udyan Marg, Raj Bhawan Square to Siripur Square, Acharya Vihar Square to Baramunda bus stand, Acharya Vihar–Apollo–Kalinga Hospital Square, Ekamra Square to Siripur Square and Ekamra Square to Palashpalli Square.
In order to enhance green cover and improve landscape design along major roads in the State Capital, the BDA had recently floated another tender to undertake extensive landscaping and plantation activities along 40 km major roads and junctions ahead of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018.
This will cover various roads and junctions, including traffic islands, medians and avenue plantations along with supply and planting of plant material, planter boxes, barricades and dustbins.
The plantation activity will also include planting of flower beds, grass, lawns, shrubs, hedgerows and trees. Besides, there will be planter boxes and hanging planters along with tree guards and
railings.
