Saintala: Police arrested a microfinance employee, who complained February 4 that miscreants had looted Rs 73, 000 from him, after finding that the complainant himself was involved in the act.
Jatindra Nag, a resident of Kharjura village near Puintala who worked for a microfinance company at Sargiguda in Titlagarh, had gone to Karamtala and Kumbhari panchayats near Saintala for collection.
Some local residents rescued him after finding him lying unconscious near Dumermunda village at 1 pm, February 4.
Later, Jatindra filed a complaint at Saintala police station that three miscreants attacked him and fled after snatching his bag containing Rs 73, 910.
Police launched an investigation and found that Jatindra himself orchestrated the plot.
A police team conducted a raid at Jatindra’s house at Kharjura village and recovered Rs 46, 000. Police also seized his bike.
During interrogation, Jatindra confessed that he had plotted the plan. He also told the police that he looted the money for treatment of his ailing wife.
After collecting money from the Microfinance loanees, Jatindra called his wife to Saintala and handed over the money to her. He then went to Dumermunda and staged the drama that he had been robbed, police said.
Notably, miscreants had looted Rs 3,00,000 from the manager of a country liquor distillery January 27. Jatindra orchestrated such a plot thinking that the police and people would believe his version as well, said Saroj Mohapatra, SDPO, Titlagarh.
