The order said the cyclonic storm Fani battered the district when the schools were closed for the summer vacation. As this might have caused some damage to the schools, all the teachers and staff will open the schools June 17 and verify the conditions of the classrooms, computer rooms, ICT laboratory, science laboratory, toilets, midday meals kitchen rooms, cleanliness and verify the food stocks.

The order has strictly banned the use of mobile phones by teachers while teaching in the classrooms. If any teacher is found using the mobile phone inside the classroom, then suitable action will be taken against him/her, the order said.

This apart, all schools have been directed to take up plantation drive in their premises. The block education officers (BEOs) will visit the respective schools and verify the tree plantation taken up by the schools.

The concerned BEO will be held responsible if any school is found skipping the planting of trees in their premises. All schools should ensure drinking water, power supply and separate toilet facilities in their premises.

All teachers and staff have been directed to arrive in their respective schools by 9 am, June 19, the day of reopening of schools and decorate the schools with flowers and Rangoli. This will help draw more students to the schools.

All the teachers have to come to schools wearing their uniforms and take up awareness programme on dengue and malaria eradication under Prerna scheme. The teachers will have to distribute the pamphlets provided by the Health Department during these programmes.

This apart, the students will have to take a pledge for a plastic and polythene free Ganjam district while all schools will conduct zero class and library movement in their respective schools. All the teachers will have to use coloured chalks and white boards while teaching students in the classrooms.

All schools will have a mirror in each classroom in which the students could examine themselves how they look. If any student is found not attending the school, then the concerned cluster resources centre coordinator (CRCC) and the headmasters will visit his/her home and discuss with the guardians on their return to the schools.

They will also have to examine that the students who have taken transfer certificates (TC) have readmitted themselves in other schools or not. They will have to inform the district child protection officers if they found any child labourer, the order said.
