Cong plans agitation on economic slowdown

New Delhi: The Odisha Congress will organise a state-wide agitation over economic slowdown in the country from October 15 to 25 holding the Union government responsible for the crisis. The party is also making elaborate arrangements for the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi from October 2 to 9.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik, after meeting state in-charge Jitendra Singh, said the party workers will expose the BJP-ruled Union government and their failure in fulfilling the promises they had made to the people of the country. Congress members will hold mass agitation from October 15 to 25. Party leaders will go to people and tell them about the failure of the Centre on several fronts.
Patnaik further said that the general body of party will hold preparatory meetings between September 20 and 25 for the agitation and birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi. Three secretaries in-charge of OPCC will visit the state September 25 and chalk out details of carrying out the mass agitation.
Secretary in-charge of Odisha Rudrarajan said the party will also start membership drive across the state as the OPCC has been dissolved. ”We will go to different districts and induct young and experienced people in the party. We will meet youth leaders and former MPs and MLAs and recruit eligible people in the OPCC,” said Rudrarajan.
Significantly, a report has been submitted to National Students Union of India (NSUI) general secretary against the state NSUI president Itish Pradhan for holding a press conference against Niranjan Patnaik. Patnaik said disciplinary action will be taken against Itish by the general secretary of NSUI.
