Cong vows farm loan waiver amid row

Hatadihi: Reiterating his statement, PCC president Niranjan Patnaik announced, ”AICC president Rahul Gandhi has said farm loans will be waived off if his party is voted to power in Odisha.”

He was addressing a Jana Jagaran Samavesh at Hatadihi in Keonjhar Wednesday. The Samavesh was reportedly a picture of mess amid allegations of lack of proper arrangements.

The meeting was to start at 10 am but PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, Congress Prabhari Jitendra Singh and party leader Chiranjibi Biswal reached the venue at 2.10 pm. By then, the long wait under the sun had left many party workers worn out and frustrated. They left the venue before the meeting started in the afternoon. Reporters had a tough time waiting under the sun.

Reports said, people were carried in trucks to the venue while scores of them were under a spell of alcohol. The drunken party workers created a ruckus during the meeting. Some of the party workers were found asleep near wheels of the vehicles and others were lying flat in the open. Party workers complained of shortage of drinking water.

Several other party stalwarts were present at the meeting. Interestingly, the presence of Congress leader Jaydev Jena and his son Sangram Jena at the meeting created a buzz.

Whine Jena was delivering his speech, some party workers allegedly showed unruly behaviour and hurled a volley of questions about lack of arrangement for the meeting.

Jena was seen making facial gestures at the unruly workers to keep them quiet and prevent them from making a further fuss

Other Congress leaders slammed the state and central governments on several issues.

On the other hand, Anandapur MLA Mayadhar Jena and district BJD president Bimbadhar Biswal and block chairperson Sanjulata Biswal observed that Congress has gone astray and has been making rhetorics.

“People frowned upon the Congress leaders while the party has suffered debacle. Many senior leaders have deserted the party. The Congress is unable to set its house in order, but it is inclined towards censuring other parties,” they noted.
