Cop demands sexual favour from woman to lodge complaint

Bargarh: In what reflects the condition of poor people, a police ASI allegedly asked for sexual favour from a woman who had come to lodge a complaint over a family feud.

The shameful incident has come up at Barpali police station in Bargarh district. The accused ASI has been identified as Pramod Kumar Patra, posted at Barpali police station.

The matter came to the fore after the victim approached Bargarh SP and narrated her ordeal. Taking the issue seriously, SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu directed a probe into the issue and action against the accused cop in three days.

Acting on the orders of the SP, SDPO Suresh Kumar Naik launched a probe into the incident. Necessary action will be taken based on the report submitted by the SDPO after the probe, DSP Nagendra Prasad Naik said.

However, the ASI refuted the allegations and claimed that he was not investigating the issue and had not even seen the woman. It is a baseless allegation, he added.

According to sources, a woman of Kurla village under Lachipur police limits in Sonepur district had a love marriage with a youth of Melchamunda police limits area in Bargarh district three years back.

The couple has a two-year-old son and recently moved to Badgaon under Barpali police limits. The woman’s husband works a mason to earn a living.

A few days back, the couple brought out in a fight over some family issue following which the woman approached the Barpali police for help.

However, the ASI allegedly demanded sexual favours from her to solve the matter, the victim said in her complaint to the SP. He called her to a corner in the police station and asked her not to dowry, assuring that he would help her if she meets his demands.

He even threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone, the victim stated.
