Jharigam: Police Monday exhumed the body of a youth 10 days after he was reportedly killed by his brother over a family dispute at Mahandi village under Jahrigam police limits in Nabarangpur district.
The matter came to fore after the deceased’s mother lodged a complaint with Jharigam police. The body was dug out in the presence of a magistrate and sent for post-mortem.
According to sources, Haribandhu Ganda of Mahandi village had given a patch of farmland to his nephew Sripati Ganda five years ago. Haribandhu treated Sripati as his son.
After Haribanhu’s death, Sripati took care of the farmland and raised crops for the family. However, this did not go well with Sripati’s brother Mana Ganda who illegally grabbed the farmland.
This created tension between the brothers. Their fight took an ugly turn after Mana attacked Sripati with a lathi a few days back. Sripati died while he was being taken to Jharigam community health centre (CHC).
Fearing police arrest, Mana along with his aides lured the deceased’s family members with Rs 50,000 and asked them not to inform the matter to the police. They then hurriedly buried the body.
However, the deceased’s mother lodged a complaint after which the police exhumed the body. A case of murder was registered and a probe was launched while the accused were on the run. PNN
