Cops launch spl drive against criminals

Bhubaneswar: To ensure a peaceful Durga puja and Dussehra celebrations, the commissionerate police has launched a special drive in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to nab anti-social elements.
The crackdown has resulted in registration of 109 excise cases – 58 in Bhubaneswar and 51 in Cuttack – from September 1 to October 5. Police have also arrested 108 people and seized 1,045 litres of illicit liquor and 74 litres of Indian made foreign liquor.
Four cases have been registered in Bhubaneswar under various provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 1985 for possession of 35.5 kgs of drugs and 91.125 grams of brown sugar. Till now seven people have been arrested for possessing illegal drugs.
Eight cases have been registered and 10 people arrested for keeping illegal fire arms. Four pistols, two revolvers, one SBBL gun along with six rounds of live ammunitions have also been recovered
Police said 72 habitual offenders have been prosecuted while non-bailable warrants executed against 170 others.
