Cops solve lady teacher’s murder case

Khurda: Police have finally solved the mystery behind brutal murder of lady teacher Anjali Dehury at Badapokharia village under Nirakarpur police limits in the district and arrested a youth for his alleged involvement in the crime.
Police Saturday said the accused, Kunu Jena (22) of Haridamada village in Jatni police limits, whose in-laws reside at Sabarpalli of Badapokharia, has confessed of killing the lady teacher to conceal his alleged affairs with a minor relative.
According to police, the lady teacher of Ugratara Nodal Upper Primary School was staying at a rented house next to Jena’s in-laws’ house. She had caught the accused red-handed while he was indulged in an immoral activity with his minor relative. He allegedly murdered the lady teacher to conceal his illicit relationship and subsequently fled to Surat in Gujarat.
“We asked the accused to return to his village through one of his relatives and arrested him as soon as he came here,” said IG (central) Soumendra Priyadarshi and Khurda SP Dipti Rajna Ray said at a press conference here. The two cops informed that Jena had gone to his in-laws’ house January 3. On that night when his in-laws were asleep, Jena was involved in an illicit act with his minor sister-in-law on a verandah near the teacher’s room. The lady teacher noticed the duo and warned of disclosing the matter. The accused initially pleaded with Dehury not to disclose the matter to anyone, but the latter did not agree. Fearing that the teacher would expose his illicit affair, the accused planned to eliminate her.
On the following day, Jena hid himself in a paddy field between Badapokharia and Haripur, the path the teacher took to go to and return from school. When the teacher was returning from work, she was on video call with her someone. Suddenly, she noticed Jena was behind her. In no time, Jena began hitting Dehury’s head with a bamboo stick.
