Bhubaneswar: A number of surgeons from different parts of the world and the country Friday converged in the state capital for a brainstorming session on pelvic diseases and the latest technologies available in the medical sector to treat joint disorders.
Organised under the aegis of the Association of Pelvic Acetabular Surgeons (AOPAS) the third such annual conference by the association dealt with myriad issues relating to the complex health hazard which find few specialized doctors in the country to tackle it.
“Pelvic Acetabular injuries are one of the complex joint disorders which impair the movement of the patients. In India, where there are thousands of such cases detected, we have a paucity of specialist doctors treating it,” said Dr Chitta Prasad, Organising Chairman of AOPAS. He also added that this conference was an attempt to bring in specialists from across the world to discuss and share their experiences on the issue.
Experts opine that majority of the acetabular fractures are resultant of incidents like car collisions where patients need immediate attention. Higher degrees of injuries in the pelvic region can potentially impair the movement and normal function of the appendages.
The international conference saw participation of super specialist doctors from United States and Argentina. The event has been organized for three days starting from Friday. The event is likely to see sharing of best practices in treatment, dissecting the causes, treatment methods and other issues in detail.
This conference will host detailed specialised lectures, cadaveric workshop and live surgeries. “For the first time AOPAS 2019 will host case-based discussion and meet the master session which will be much more useful to all surgeons practicing pelvic-acetabular surgeries. Discussion on Total Hip Replacement in the discussion is planned,” the organizers said.
Director of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar Gitanjali Batmanabane, Dr Tania Ferguson, surgeon from US, Dr Sagi from Samsung, Dr Carlos Sancinto from Argentina, Dr Bondarenko from Ukrain are likely to take part in the discussion sessions. A total of 250 delegates including 35 faculties and 5 international faculties will be taking part in the event.
