Nayagarh/Khandapada: A couple of Khandapada NAC in Nayagarh district, who set themselves on fire over a domestic dispute, succumbed to their burn injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Sadananda Pradhan and his wife Rutuparna Rath of Mangala Sahi in Khandapada. They had a love marriage and are survived by an eight-year-old son.
Following a tiff with his wife, Sadananda set himself on fire by dousing himself with kerosene. Rutuparna also sustained critical burn injuries while trying to save her husband.
Fire personnel rescued and admitted them to the district headquarters hospital from where they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
The couple succumbed to their burn injuries Thursday morning. However, no complaint has been filed in the Khandapada police station as yet.
