Couple goes missing, cops suspect murder over witchcraft

Baripada: Recovery of broken bangles and a bloodstained shirt belonging to a tribal couple have led to the suspicion that they have been killed. Baripada police suspect that the couple was murdered over suspected witchcraft. The two – Sitaram Singh and Leth Singh had gone missing since, Sunday.

According to police, the couple had gone to Chhatramba village Sunday to watch a football match. However, when they did not return home till late at night, a search was launched. During the search family members of the two stumbled upon bloodstained clothes, slippers and broken bangles inside a forest near the couple’s house. The family then alleged that Sitaram and Leth were murdered as there were suspicions that they practiced black magic.

Later, a complaint was lodged at Kaptipada police station in this regard, based on which a police team along with sniffer dogs visited the spot for investigation. There is still no information available to the family members or the police regarding the whereabouts of the couple.

“As my parents did not return home, we launched a search and found bloodstained clothes, slippers and glass bangles in the forest. In an incident, earlier, they were attacked and thrashed by some people on suspicion of practicing sorcery. I believe the same people may have murdered my parents,” alleged Kuni Singh, daughter of the missing couple.
