Couple leaves DHH with baby on saline drips

Keonjhar: A couple was found moving helplessly with their two-month-old baby who was being administered saline drips at the child ward in the district headquarters hospital here Tuesday. The couple was taking the baby without the help of medical staff from the operation theatre to the child ward.

The child was in a critical condition while he was being shifted from the child ward exposing the insensitive of medical staff at the hospital.

The baby girl of Arjun Kisku and his wife Suna Kisku of Goudasinga under Ghasipura block was suffering from fever. She was initially admitted to Anandapur CHC and later shifted to the DHH. As her condition did not improve after seven days of treatment, a doctor recommended administration of saline. As the medical staff could not find a vein to inject saline drips, she was taken to the operation theatre. After a minor cut, saline pipe was inserted into the vein. The couple held the baby with saline bottle and walked out of the child ward. Other patients and their attendants were witness to the scene.

ADMO KC Prusty said an attendant was provided to take care of the couple after saline was administered on the child. The matter will be looked into, he added.
