Baripada: A couple and their minor daughter were killed after being run over by a tractor here in Mayurbhanj district Saturday evening.
According to reports, the mishap took place when a tractor hit their motorcycle near Bungalow Chhak on National Highway 18 near Betanati.
The driver of the paddy-laden tractor lost his balance on the wheels following which the family was thrown onto the road.
While the couple and their younger daughter died on the spot, their elder daughter sustained critical injuries.
On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe.
The identity of the deceased is not yet ascertained. The elder girl was admitted to a local hospital.
The incident spread tension in the area as angry locals overpowered the tractor driver and thrashed him black and blue before handing him over to police.
Locals, who expressed concern on the future of the injured girl, requested assistance from the administration.
