Malkangiri: On an order issued by a kangaroo court, a Bengali youth along with a tribal woman was tied to an utility pole and brutally beaten up at Kusunbeda village under Sadar block for having an affair.
Though the incident occurred two days back, it came to light Wednesday after a video went viral on the social media.
Police have started an investigation into the matter, it was learnt.
According to sources, the villagers asked the youth and the woman of Koya community not to continue their relationship. However, they went ahead and earned the anger of tribal residents. The villagers reportedly caught the duo red-handed inside a house.
The two were then taken to a kangaroo court held in the middle of the village where they were tied to an electricity pole and mercilessly beaten up. Later, a penalty of Rs 50,000 was imposed on the youth. He was released after he agreed to follow the decision of the ‘court’.
The police were aware of the decision, the villagers said, adding, no complaint was made at the police station as the matter was resolved on mutual agreement. PNN
