: The Commissionerate Police (CP) plans to create a WhatsApp group comprising police officials and residents of CDA area here to curb rising incidents of crime in the locality.
Both police and residents of CDA area are having sleepless nights lately due to rapidly growing incidents of loot, armed robbery and chain-snatching, which have led the CP to seek the residents’ support under Ama Police initiative. At a police-public interface held at Santuka Palace in CDA area Monday, the plan to form a WhatsApp group was discussed.
“Anti-socials are having a field day in the area. They commit robbery and dacoity in broad daylight. Residents feel it is unsafe to leave their houses after locking them even in the daytime as there are chances of burglars striking,” said Baishnab Charan Mohanty, a resident who was present at the meeting. Advocate Manas Ranjan Dhal said miscreants also target morning walkers in the area.
“Armed miscreants snatching ornaments from women in the area has become a usual phenomenon. Police should keep tabs on inter-state miscreants who apparently commit these crimes and flee the state overnight. Some miscreants had recently decamped with electronic goods worth over `40 lakh from a shop after breaking its wall,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora said: “The CP is taking all possible steps to control crime in the area. A committee comprising citizens and police will be formed at every sector for better coordination in tackling crime. A WhatsApp group comprising the committee members and residents will be created so that they can post their complaints and suggestions easily.”
The WhatsApp group will also have the DCP and the superintendent of police as members for speedy redressal of the grievances, said Arora.
A police-public coordination meeting, the DCP said, would be held every month and it would be attended by the neighbours of the victims of crime. Ama Police initiatives would be intensified in the coming days, he added.
