Nimapara: Forest officials Friday caught a crazy monkey that had been unleashing a reign of terror in Nimapara market and its adjacent areas for the past 15 days.
At least 20 people who were injured in the rogue monkey attacks had to get medical treatment at Chharichaka Hospital.
The residents of Nimapara Market, Gopinathpatna, Patitapabanpatna and Nuamatha Sahi were not venturing out of their houses due to fear of the monkey. Besides, the residents were afraid of crossing the Kushbhadra River bridge due to the monkey menace.
According to sources, the forest officials had worked for about 10 days on various ways to catch the rogue monkey. Finally, the officials had a sigh of relief after the simian was caught Friday afternoon.
Sources said the monkey was sitting atop an asbestos house when Ramchandra Kandi of Nandankanan tranquilised it. Later, the monkey was treated at a veterinary centre at Kushupur and shifted to Nandankanan, Gop ranger Kanhu Charan Sethi said.
