Crown Sporting in semifinals

 

Nimapada: Crown Sporting entered the semifinals of the All India Nimapada cricket tournament after scripting a narrow four-run victory over Rameswar Sporting in a quarterfinal match here Monday.

Opting to bat first Crown scored 172 all out in 29.5 overs with Debraj Kar (49) emerging highest scorer. Rakesh Sharma picked up five wickets for Rameswar.

Crown bowlers and fielders did very well to restrict the opposition to 168 for five. Kunal Mallick scored a brilliant half century, but could take his team over the line. Suryakanta Samal picked up two wickets for Crown while Debraj was adjudged man of the match.

Orissa face Assam in semis

 AG Assam and AG Bihar entered the semifinals of the IA&AD East Zone cricket tournament after winning their respective matches against Jharkhand and Tripura respectively at different grounds in Bhubaneswar, Monday. AG Orissa and AG West Bengal, who have got first round byes will meet Assam and Bihar in the semifinals.

Assam scripted a convincing victory by eight wickets over AG Jharkhand. Put into bat, Jharkhand were bundled out for 106 in 20.4 overs with Samik Das (7/25) of Assam wreaking havoc. In reply Assam romped home in only 13 overs for the loss of two wickets with Sanjay Brahma (48) leading the run chase.

Bihar also defeated Tripura by eight wickets. Opting to bat first, Tripura rode on a splendid knock by Nabjyoti Debnath (69) to score 129 in 29 overs. Bihar made a mockery of the run chase as they knocked off the target in only 22 overs for the loss of two wickets. Sabir Hussain (58) was the highest scorer for them.
