Crown Sporting surge into final

Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: Crown Sporting entered the final of the Umakanta Garabadu Memorial cricket tournament beating Rising Students by 17 runs in a closely fought first semifinal match at the BEM HS Ground here Monday.
Being put into bat first, Crown scored a challenging total of 180 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 35 overs. Soumyajit Pandab (62, 77b) emerged as the highest scorer. Sai Prasad Acharya (2/21) and B Surya Roahan (2/35) bowled well to share four wickets among themselves.
In reply, Rising Students were bundled out for 163 in 33.4 overs. They fought well, but a brilliant half century by B Surya Roshan (62, 56b) was not proved to be enough. Man of the match Soumyajit Panndab (3/27) was the best bowler for Crown Sporting.
Hosts Rameswar Sporting will meet Juvenile Cricket Club in the second semifinal Tuesday.
Seeds sail through
Top seeed Manas Parida, third seed Prabhat Ojha and Birakishore Behera are leading the pack with 5.5 points after the completion of the sixth round of the Sudeep Memorial chess tournament here Monday. They are followed by five players with five points. The players who are sharing the joint second spot are Santosh Sinha, Prakash Sahoo, Manas Singh, Jagaddananda Mohanty and Sanjay Pattnaik. Aditya patnaik, Haraprasad Chatterjee and Sahadev Khatei are sharing the third spot with 4.5 points apiece.
