CRUT gets a new name

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has been renamed as Comprehensive Region Urban Transport (CRUT), reflecting its growing role in providing modern, safe, and reliable urban transport solutions beyond Bhubaneswar to communities across Odisha.

The announcement came during the 51st Board of Directors meeting held under the chairmanship of CRUT Chairperson and Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg.

The name change is part of CRUT’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of urban mobility services and improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of transport systems throughout the state.

The organisation’s expanded focus aims to address the growing needs of urban populations in various regions of Odisha, aligning with the state’s vision for comprehensive urban development, it was learnt.

During the meeting, several important initiatives were reviewed and discussed.

CRUT has achieved a significant milestone with 38 per cent adoption of digital ticketing, reflecting a major shift from traditional manual tickets to a more secure, convenient, and tech-savvy system for passengers.

This transition is part of a broader push towards modernisation and enhanced commuter experience.

In a bid to improve road safety, CRUT has begun the implementation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Fatigue Monitoring Systems (DFMS) across its fleet of buses.

“The new fleet of 200 buses, approved by the state Cabinet, is already equipped with these systems, designed to minimise accidents and enhance overall road safety,” a CRUT official said. CRUT, under the Housing and Urban Development department, regulates the Ama Bus service.
