Curbs on fishing for DRDO weapon tests

Paradip: Restrictions have been clamped on fishing in sea for three days starting February 8 for testing of war weapons by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), a report said.

According to a notification issued by the DRDO, the restrictions will be in force from 9 am till 4 pm during these three days for a stretch of 30 km off the coast.

The district Collectors of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur have been asked to ensure that no fishermen or fishing boats from their respective districts venture into the sea for fishing during this period.

On being informed, the boat owners and fishermen have been asked to return back to shore with their fishing boats and not to venture into the sea during this period, Arabinda Swain, secretary of Odisha Marine Fish Producers Association (OMFPA) said.
