Bhubaneswar, March 27: After the arrest of a builder Monday on charges of circulating an obscene video clip, the police role has come under scanner as they failed to act on the complaint and appeared clueless about such cyber crimes.
“We need a separate formation of a Cyber Cell to deal with such high-tech crimes. Also, some kind of training needs to be imparted in our cops, only then we would be more capable in investigating such cases,” said police commissioner RP Sharma.
Cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai have separate Cyber Cells to deal with online crimes such as stalking women and posting indecent material on facebook, WhatsApp, quicker etc.
Builder Subrata Sahoo, was arrested by CBI Monday for circulating a vulgar video on WhatsApp of a woman who worked as receptionist at his office.
Back in 2010, when the incident had happened, the victim had approached Shahid Nagar police which did not take up her plea. She had also approached former commissioner of police BK Sharma, who reportedly sat on the complaint.
Recently, a Hyderabad-based NGO, Prajwala, moved the Supreme Court and produced nine video clips, containing sexual assaults on women. When the apex court ordered a CBI probe, Sahoo figured in one of the video clips.
