Cybercriminals dupe people of Rs 1.28 crore in August

Bhubaneswar: Cybercriminals duped people to the tune of Rs 1,28,25,184  in Odisha during August 2021, the cyber help desk of Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) informed Thursday.

According to official sources, cybercriminals duped people of Rs 64,24,705 in this period from Bhubaneswar alone. Meanwhile, the UPD help desk has refunded around Rs 9.21 lakh of the total amount.

Cyber cell received 475 complaints pertaining to online fraud in the last month, of which 245 were received from Bhubaneswar. Besides, 230 complaints were received from other parts of Odisha.

Moreover, 13 cases were registered in August and 72 mobile numbers were blocked, the UPD cyber help desk informed.

Notably, UPI frauds reported from Bhubaneswar were 104, credit and debit card frauds were 28 and other calls received were 113.

Number of cybersafe tickets generated was 72.
