Bhubaneswar: Five districts in southern Odisha have been placed under an orange warning for November 3 and 4 as Cyclonic Storm ‘Murasu’ moves towards the southern Andhra Pradesh coast, raising the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state.
Although the cyclonic system is not expected to make a direct impact on Odisha, its influence is likely to trigger rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several districts over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather office has forecast wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, with gusts reaching 70 kmph, in the five districts under the orange warning.
Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri are among the southern districts likely to experience the impact of the system.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and rainfall in 16 districts Sunday.
For Monday, Ganjam and Gajapati are under a warning for heavy rainfall, while other districts are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled as the cyclonic system develops over the Bay of Bengal and advances towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
