D-brothers among 28 named in chargesheet

Cuttack, June 17: Chauliaganj police Friday submitted another chargesheet in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here against 28 accused including Dhalasamanta brothers for their involvement in extortion, tender fixing and illegal arms trade.
In the 233-page chargesheet, the police framed charges against Sushil Dhalasamanta, his brother Sushant and 26 other accused under Sections 387,120 (B), 34 of IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of arms act.
The police said the gangster brothers with the help of their associates were fixing tenders of water resources, rural development and roads and buildings departments.
Following the arrest of Dhalasamanta brothers, Chauliaganj police had arrested contractor Bharat Bhusan Swain February 1 and recovered Rs 12.44 lakh from him.
The criminal siblings were also fixing tenders of bridge and drainage department.
They used to grab tenders of these departments with the help of Swain and Shiv Gocchi and prevent others from submitting tenders.
The police claimed that they had seized an audio CD containing a conversation in which the criminal siblings were demanding `10 lakh from a contractor. The police submitted the audio CD along with the chargesheet.
Moreover, the criminals had been extorting money from well-known businessmen and contractors on regular basis. Besides, they had extorted money from Ramki agency which has undetaken the cleanliness and sanitation projects in the city. Several complaints were filed in this regard after their arrest.
