Balipada: Acting on a tip-off, the police late Friday night conducted a raid and busted a dacoit gang while they were hatching a plan to conduct a theft at an isolated house at Jhadankuli village under Sadar police limits in Ganjam district.
Five of the dacoits were held while others managed to escape. Police also seized sharp-edged weapons, iron rods, bombs and a pistol from their possession. A case was registered and the five were produced in court. They were then remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.
According to police, the looters were hatching a plan to loot a petrol bunk. A team led by IIC Siba Shankar Mahaptra conducted the raid and made the arrest. They have been identified as Jitu Sahu, Silu Panigrahy of Kamagaon, Manoj Ghadei of Jagdalpur, Sagar Chaudhary and Gina Behera of Lochapada area.
