Dalit woman assaulted in public

Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a Dalit woman was allegedly dragged out of her house and assaulted by a group of youths in front of her husband at Sanamunduli village under Barang police limits here.
The matter came to light after the woman Sunday lodged a complaint with the local police in this regard. On the basis of the plaint, Zone-4 ACP Nimai Charan Sethi has initiated a probe into the incident.
According to the FIR, some local youths of the village came to the woman’s house January 25 and threatened to kill her husband and son over some issue. With no options left, the women pleaded before them to solve the issue mutually.
In spite of heeding the woman’s words, the goons lost their cool and hurled derogatory and nastiest remarks on her. When the woman protested, the youths dragged her out of the house and started assaulting her verbally.
The woman’s husband, who came to her rescue, also faced the wrath of the youths. They thrashed the woman and her husband before fleeing the spot.

village.
In response to a query, Barang IIC Jatindranath Sethy said, “Based on the complaint filed by the Dalit woman, the case has been handed over to Zone-4 ACP. Action will be taken against those involved in the criminal act.”
