Kendrapara: IIT Madras professor, Dr. Sanyasi Raj, accompanied by Purna Chandra Rath, executive engineer of Aul saline embankment, Saturday visited Pentha to take stock of the geo synthetic sea wall project that was completed recently under ICZMP to protect the lives and properties of people of 56 villages under Rajnagar block.
Though only a month has passed to the completion of the project, the gabion boxes have been damaged in some parts of the wall due to high tide. Besides, high tensile ropes were found floating on the sea.
The residents of sea erosion-prone Pentha village have raised questions on the durability of the sea wall.
Dr. Raj said there is nothing to worry about. Due to high tide at regular intervals the wall needs proper maintenance, he said, adding the damaged gabion boxes should be repaired and granites should be packed into the damaged portion. A couple of experts from IIT Madras have been monitoring the situation for seven-eight days, he said.
Rath said the professor would discuss the matter with experts and submit a report to the government. PNN
