BHUBANESWAR: A fun-filled workshop ‘Bring Out The FUNK Vol 2’ hosted enthusiastic participants who put on a show at Funk Factory Dance Studio in Cuttack Sunday.
The event was organised as the pop culture landscape of the state has widened over the years embracing new art forms. A dance expert from New Delhi Sahil Jain imparted training to the youngsters.
Jain has represented India at a dance completion KOD in South Korea. The dance enthusiasts who participated in the workshop were from various states. They trained hard for two hours.
Jain said, “I am here to teach the hip hop culture to students who are interested. This would enable them to give their best in big stages.”
In the evening, the organisers conducted dance battles in two categories: one-on-one hip-hop and one-on-one popping. Dancers from Vizag, Kolkata and various parts of Odisha put on a show in these competitions.
Umakanta Behera, popularly known as Popper Uma, organised the whole event. She said, “I am organising this event to give a better platform to the dance enthusiasts. The pop culture flourishes in the silver city. However, people hardly get a chance to shocwcase their talent in the field.”
“Apart from providing a platform, the event imparted proper training with a proper guide. We have received a great response in the second edition of the event. In the first edition, we had not conducted any workshop. We had ensured that there was no partiality in this competition. All the decisions were taken on spot to ensure transparency,” she added.
One of the participants Rahil Sahoo said, “‘Bring Out The FUNK Vol 2’ provided a great platform to us to learn as well as perform. Sahil Jain conducted the workshop quite well. Such events should be organised more often to augment the pop terrain of the state.”
