Barang: Residents of Daruthenga on the city outskirts Monday staged a demonstration demanding relocation of a dumping yard under Bhuasuni Mouza and opposing a proposed power plant at the site.
The residents expressed their disappointment over the indifference of the administration towards their demands and criticised the move of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in this regard.
Hundreds of villagers reached the dumping site and opposed the construction work for the power plant. The residents had a scuffle with the policemen deployed over there. Later, the residents organised an all-party protest meet at the village.
Sources said the BMC started the work for the proposed power plant a few days ago. The residents have been agitating against the location of the dumping yard since the beginning of the year. The agitators had even locked the gates to prevent vehicles from entering the dumping yard.
Although the civic body had agreed to relocate the dumping yard to Tulasideipur, it is yet to take steps in this regard, the residents alleged.
