Bhadrak: While their father is affected by neurological problem and is bed-ridden for the last 25 years, three daughters at Padmapur under Basudevpur block in Bhadrk have been running a snack shop to make a living as well as bear the treatment expenses of their ailing father. Indeed, the three siblings have set an example for others.
Despite the fact that they are struggling to meet the medical cost of their father Amulya Biswal (60), family expenses and cost of their studies, his elder daughter Mamata was married off.
Another daughter Mita has studied Plus-II, while the third daughter Urbasi and son Manas are pursuing their studies despite facing acute financial difficulties.
The kids recalled the days when the family faced severe crisis after their father and the main bread-winner of the family could not fell sick and failed to go out for work. He has been suffering from gout. Faced with pecuniary problems, the family found it difficult to arrange two square meals daily, leave alone meeting Biswal’s medical expenses.
At this juncture of life, the three siblings started a snack shop at the local market about 25 years ago and they are still in business. Two girls have left studies, leaving their father a worried man.
Biswal says every month his medical expense is to the tune of Rs 4,000, apart from expenses for running the family and the children’s education.
On an average, his daughters earn Rs 300 to 400 daily. Aside from this, Biswal receives a monthly pension of Rs 300.
Despite their miserable condition, his children have not given up efforts for their survival.
The girls urged the government to extend a helping hand in the form of loans to their ailing father for advanced treatment.
