Cuttack, July 11: DCP Sanjeev Arora has written to Vigilance seeking a probe into the allegation of irregularities in construction and repair work at Badambadi bus stand in the city. The development comes after a decision to this effect was taken at a traffic management committee meet held in April this year.
The three terminals, used by about 840 buses every day, are in a decrepit condition with water-logging posing a severe problem during the rains.
The Orissa Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) collects Rs 15 per bus every day. While Rs 10 is appropriated by the OSRTC, Rs 5 is set aside for development of the terminals. Sources said about Rs 80 lakh has been spent on the development of the bus stand in the last three years. However, there is no sign of development at Angul, Puri and Paradip bus terminals, including the main bus stand.
The urinals, roads, drains, rest sheds and other infrastructure are in a deplorable condition, it was said at the meeting.
“The decision to spend the money is taken by the headquarters. Our job is to supervise the work,” Badambadi bus stand manager Bana Mohapatra said.
