Bhubaneswar: A decomposed human body was found in bushes near Kelu Charan Park in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, with police suspecting that an attempt had been made to burn it to destroy evidence.
Passersby alerted police after spotting a human leg near the park, following which officers reached the spot and recovered body parts from the bushes.
A forensic team examined the spot. Preliminary findings suggest the person may have died several days ago, Bhubaneswar zone 5 ACP Biswaranjan Senapati said.
A half-pant found near the remains led police to suspect that the deceased was male, but the gender, age and identity would be established after further investigation and medical examination, he said.
Police will circulate details of the body among all police stations to help identify the deceased, Senapati added.
