Bantala: A decomposed jumbo carcass was recovered Monday at Tabhakhol hilltop of Pupunda Section Compartment-6 under Angul forest range.
Alerted, divisional forest officer (DFO) V Kartik, ranger Satyabrata Pradhan, forester Srinivas Sahoo and veterinary officer Santosh Kumar Swain and others reached the spot and seized the carcass. The pachyderm, with very small tusks, died about five days back, a preliminary post-mortem report revealed.
The reason behind its death and its gender was not known, the DFO said. The cause of death would be learnt after receipt of the complete report, officials said.
