‘Demand’ for sexual favours brings trouble for DEO clerk

Rayagada: An attempt to establish illicit physical relationship with a woman was foiled and has landed a District Education Office (DEO) clerk in soup. The accused Satyanarayan Bisoi was taken into custody Monday by Rayagada Town Police based on a complaint by an assistant high school teacher.

The complainant was suspended in March along with her school headmaster after one of the students’ admission cards did not arrive on time during Matric exams. An inquiry was set up in May and during the entire period the accused had been in touch with the victim.

Initially, while the discussions were work-related, the accused later asked for sexual favours in return for solving her issues. When the woman refused, Bisoi reportedly resorted to threatening her with dire consequences.

She was finally posted to Durgi High School in BissamCuttack block, July 22. She was, however, not paid her due salary even after a month. When she contacted the office of the DEO, she was informed that she had never been given a posting at the said High School.

Perplexed, the victim requested the district Collector to help her out. She also filed a complaint against Bisoi
at Rayagada Town Police station. Based on her complaint, the police took the accused into custody.

Meanwhile, Pramod Kumar Behera, Rayagada Collector, has promised to look into the matter. He said that an inquiry committee will be set up and the next course of action will be decided as per the committee’s report.

On the other hand, Bisoi has accused the complainant of harassing him due to a previous altercation for which he is “not responsible”.
