Dera sect accused of cheating in Puri

Puri: Amid reports of large scale violence by the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a villager here Sunday alleged that two relatives of the godman had acquired a piece of land from his family fraudulently to set up an ashram in the holy city here.

Ramachandra Swain of Beleswar Patna near Puri-Konark Marine Drive road claimed that two relatives of Gurmeet Ram Rahim—Darshan Singh and Raju Bhatia—had purchased 4 acre land at Beladala Mouza from his mother Sunamani a few years ago. Followers of the godman had promised Sunamani to pay Rs 32 lakh for the land.

“Dera sect people had paid Rs 24 lakh and acquired the land. They are yet to pay the balance amount. Besides, Ram Rahim’s relatives had got the consent of my mother and elder brother for the land deal. But, they did not inform anything to me and my other siblings,” alleged Swain.

Swain claimed that followers of the godman had promised to give a job to his elder brother. But, they did not keep their promise. “We are planning to move the court on the issue. We urge the state government to provide us support,” Swain said.
