Diarrhoea claims three lives in Ganjam

Digapahandi: An outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting has been reported for the past five days in Marthapur and Rajanapalli villages under Podamari panchayat and Dhimirapalli village under T Govindpur panchayat in Ganjam district’s Sanakhemundi block.

One more person died Thursday morning, taking the reported death toll to three. Surendra Mallik, 60, of Marthapur died Wednesday while Sambaru Mallik, 71, of Rajanapalli died Thursday morning. Bharat Mallik of the village had died of diarrhoea and vomiting about 12 days ago.

Raghunath Mallik, 62, Guni Mallik, 15, Shubham Mallik, 13, Banamali Mallik, 55, and another person from Marthapur are undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur. Two others have recovered and returned home after treatment.
