Disqualified amin candidate attempts suicide

Bolangir: A woman attempted suicide Tuesday after she was removed from the post of amin following irregularities in the appointments of revenue inspectors (RIs), assistant revenue inspectors (ARIs) and amins here.

Family members rushed Nirmalya Swain, daughter of Shatrughan Swain, of Rameswar Nagar in Bolangir to the district headquarters hospital where her condition remained critical.

She was appointed as amin of Loisingha tehsil in 2013. She took the extreme step after the High Court quashed the appointments of RIs, ASIs and amins in the district.

Sources said examinations for recruitment for 169 posts of RIs, ARIs and amins in Bolangir district were held in 2013. Over 1,400 candidates had appeared for the examinations. Out of them, 164 were declared eligible for appointments to various posts.

The selection, however, came under severe scrutiny after allegations of irregularities in the appointments and recruitments were made. It was alleged the district administration received kickbacks running to several crores of rupees and gave appointments to ineligible candidates in place of genuine and deserving candidates.

Based on a complaint by the state revenue department, the vigilance department launched a probe. After finding clinching evidence, the government removed 153 RIs, ARIs and amins posted in the district.

Later, the candidates challenged their removal at SAT. Although SAT in its order had favoured the job aspirants, the High Court ordered removal of the candidates.

After learning the news from her friend, Nirmalya was under stress, her father said. She tried to hang herself with a rope inside her room.

Meanwhile, all the candidates who were removed from their jobs held a discussion to stand united against the court verdict. PNN
